Was educated at a local school in Hull and progressed onto University, attending colleges in Cambridge and latterly in Manchester. Mike's early working life included selling houses and arranging mortgages, and moved onto teaching in primary schools.
He has been in a driver training environment for most of his life. His mother served with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the ATS during the World War II, as a driver trainer and mechanic, having some responsibility for teaching Her Majesty to drive. After completing her military service, Phylis Yeomans set up a Driving School in Hull, and during Mike’s college years he helped out with the family driving school business.
Mike’s education has never stopped. He has attained teaching and psychology qualifications and awarded a Professorship in psychology and driver education, also completed Fleet Management CPC.
He is a Train the Trainer in a number of subjects including Passenger Transportation and Freight Haulage. He has served with the Royal Air Force Training Branch, rising to the rank of Squadron Leader, and awarded the Lord Lieutenant Certification from the Crown for his training achievements, including support of youth in the community.
His passion for driver training through his family connections has developed over the years.
Mike has continued the family tradition and runs his own small driver training business, in addition to full time employment with Kingstown Works Ltd Fleet and the Hull City Council, serving as their ‘Safe Driver Manager’.
He has developed a driver permit system for the Council / KWL Fleet and delivers in-house and external training for them covering assessments in all types of vehicles, as well as classroom delivery and gudance on Driver CPC, Health and Safety and is an adviser on Risk Policy.

During 2009 he assisted the Highways Agency with development of education/training for the elderly driver. This has been a new initiative for the Safer Roads Humber, and in 2009, to mark the 50 years of the motorway and how we use the network, a DVD was produced by the Highways Agency that dovetailed with the ongoing work concerning elderly drivers and how we can empower them to be able to maintain their independence and use today’s roads safely.
As an A1 assessor Mike has been able to help develop NVQ (QLS) and drivercpc courses and assist industry with driver and company policy.
